Where is home?

I think about the concept of home a lot. The more I think about it, the more complicated it gets to answer, especially for people like me who were born and lived in different places, and are moving constantly.

Is home,

  • Where you were born?
  • Where you will die?
  • Where your family is?
  • Where you pay your taxes?
  • Where your parents were born?
  • Where you have lived most?
  • Where you have lived most recently?
  • Where you want to spend most of your time?
  • Where you loved most?
  • Where you have connected best with people?
  • Where most of your friends live?
  • Where you have the most/best memories of?
  • Where you have felt the happiest?

I realize that the more you travel, home becomes less of a physical concept.

I recently watched a TED talk titled "Where is home?" and loved how the presenter defines home for himself:

Home is less to do with a piece of soil than a piece of soul.

Home is a work in progress.

Where you come from now is much less important than where you're going.

I highly recommend this touching, poetic TED talk by Pico Iyer:
